SUMMARY:Musical Theatre Dance Course
DESCRIPTION:Lucy trained at the prestigious Guildford School of Acting in Musical Theatre. Since graduating she has worked around the world performing professionally in musicals\, plays\, dance shows\, Shakespearean productions and for a leading children’s theatre company in New Zealand. Her passion and talent for dance led her to the world of teaching and choreographing and it brings her great joy to pass on her knowledge and expertise.  Her favorite styles to teach are Jazz\, Lyrical\, Musical Theatre and Contemporary and her choreography is often influenced from her Latin dance training\, in which she competed at Blackpool many times.  She enjoys dancing the Lindy Hop and Jive in her spare time and loves being swung around in partner dances! \nLucy is a freelance choreographer\, and has worked on Grease at Cheltenham College\, a lead youth practitioner and movement director for the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham\, and regularly choreographs for their Summer Productions on the main stage. \nLucy is also qualified Yoga instructor and is an advocate for leading a healthy and happy lifestyle.  She still dips her toes in the acting world and is a devoted member of the Cotswold Playhouse in Stroud and the Cheltenham Operatic Society. Her most recent performance was in Evita at the Cheltenham Playhouse. \nLucy is Mummy to her little boy\, Arlo. She is determined that he will be the next Billy Elliot and has already invested in some baby tap shoes. \nShe hopes you find a great sense of joy and escapism in her classes.

SUMMARY:Tap Dance Course
DESCRIPTION:Lucy is looking forward to getting her tap shoes back on for another amazing 5 week tap course. \nShe started tapping when she was a little girl and distinctly remembers a starring tap solo in a jungle book dance\, dressed in fur and leapard print. Since then\, Lucy has competed in competition’s and festivals and continued her tap training at the prestigious Guildford Scholol of Acting\, where she graduated with a Musical Theatre degree. Lucy loves to create and explore with different styles and rhythms. Her favourite style of tap to watch is American tap which was undoubtedly influenced by the West End show ‘ STOMP’. \nFor this course\, we will look at a more classical and sophisticated tap style. We will learn basic beginner tap steps and then add them to a routine which will build each week. \nA full course commitment is encouraged\, although not essential. But as the course is focusing on and developing one routine\, single classes can only be booked for the first two weeks. \nBenefits of tap dance! \n\n\nEveryone can do it! Tap dance is popular among the preschool set and senior citizens…and everyone in between. Whether you are a young child just starting dance lessons\, or an adult who has always secretly wanted to try… there is a class and a level for you. Check out Savion Glover or the hit show “Tap Dogs”. Tap dance can be adapted for every fitness level and skill level. And it still looks and sounds terrific. \n\n\nTap dance makes lots of noise! Whether you are 3 or 103\, everyone loves to make a little noise now and then. Tap dancing can be a uniquely satisfying physical and emotional release because of its ability to produce sound. For children who are constantly being told to sit down and be quiet\, being allowed to stand up and make noise can be particularly cathartic. Tap dance holds the same therapeutic benefits for teens\, adults\, seniors…anyone looking to find their voice. \n\n\nTap dance makes you smarter. Tap dancing consists of learning rhythm patterns. Learning and memorizing patterns is a great workout for your brain. And it’s all math. Repeating\, reversing and counting the rhythm patterns reinforces math concepts that younger students are learning in school. And for the adults and seniors… we all know that mental exercise promotes healthy brain activity and can help ward off disorders such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. So get tapping! \n\n\nTap dance is a great workout. Learn a few basic patterns and you are off to a great cardio workout. Tap dance gets the heart rate up in a way that’s way more enjoyable than a jog around the block. It tones the major muscle groups in the legs and core and is a super fun way to stay in shape. \n\n\nTap dance works the core for improved balance. Knowing where the body’s weight should be and when to shift the weight from one foot to the other is essential for proper tap technique. One of the first things you should learn in any tap class is proper weight placement over the balls of the feet with soft knees and an engaged core. Training the muscle memory in this way improves balance\, coordination and control. And the benefits of a strong core are numerous\, including less back pain and risk of falling. \n\n\nTap dance is steeped in history. American masters such as Leonard Reed and Bill Robinson shaped the dance form into what it is today. Tap dance is very much an oral and demonstrated tradition with skills\, steps and choreography passed from teacher to student for generations. There is a certain reverence for the masters that motivates and inspires students even today. The legendary Shim Sham Shimmy has been done by tap dancers for over one hundred years… and still entertains and inspires those who see it as it did in Vaudeville times. \n\n\nTap dance is one of the only dance genres you are meant to hear. Learning to tap dance is basically learning to play an instrument. Rhythm patterns and clear sounds make this art form so intriguing to the ear. Couple that with upper body movement and traveling around the stage and you’ve got a feast for the senses. The audience can not only enjoy the visual creativity of the performance\, but also the rhythm patterns over the chosen music… or even tap dancing making the music all by itself. It adds a whole new dimension to the art of dance. \n\n\nTap dance is portable. While many dance genres would need a wide-open space for performance\, tap dance is traditionally quite humble…fitting itself into life and appearing on street corners\, in dance halls and anywhere where enthusiasts gather. Tap dance can be practiced literally anywhere. And you don’t need your tap shoes on to do it! The aisles of the food store are great for traveling steps. The bathroom floor is a great practice space while brushing teeth\, or in front of the copier at work. Under your desk during math class (quietly) is a great place to practice patterns… any place the feet have a bit of room to move. It’s contagious! \n\n\nTap dance is a very social art form. Throughout the history of tap dance\, performers have come together for friendly competition\, tap offs and “conversations” had through sound. Tap dance has even been used in African and Irish cultures as a way of communicating without words. American tap dance as we know it today is a unique blend of its African and Irish roots that met and merged in the early part of the 20th century in casual settings and even on street corners before moving to the Vaudeville stage. \n\n\nEveryone loves to watch a tap dance. Tap dance is a crowd pleaser every time! I’ve never seen a somber audience during a tap performance…or a somber performer for that matter. Senior citizens love to watch tap dance…so do preschoolers. Whether we are watching or participating\, tap dance is an all-American art form that everyone seems to enjoy.

SUMMARY:Dance & Stretch Tuesday 9.15am
DESCRIPTION:Dance & Stretch \nWhat makes a Dazzle Dance & Stretch course unique?\nEvery week a new fun routine\, a new dance style\, new feel good music. \nEach routine is choreographed with three aims – I want the choreography to feel achievable and for you to leave feeling a sense of achievement – I want you to also feel challenged enough to focus on the dancing and forget about the world outside – I want to put a smile on your face. Some classes focus more on the fitness\, some are bouncy\, some are more technical and others but each class is independent so you can rock up\, enjoy\, take what you need from it and forget about it. There is no pressure to remember any moves for the next class\, just enjoy then say goodbye and get on with your week. \nA short warm up starts the class before gradually\, section by section\, we develop and learn an achievable\, fun\, stylish but challenging enough routine. With lots of repeated sequences\, you will be able to add in more style and individuality as we run through the finished masterpiece a few times before a simple cool down. The time flies by and you can put in as much or as little as you want. If you are there for fitness\, to hang out with friends\, to dance\, to forget about the cupboards that need sorting\, it doesn’t matter. \n\nThen we roll out our mats for a well deserved guided 15-20 minute stretch and relax.  Building strength and flexibility\, relaxing\, reaping the benefits of the dance workout and helping you to leave the class a little less wired up.

SUMMARY:Strictly Latin
DESCRIPTION:Dazzle is excited to have Carys on board as a guest specialist teacher sharing her love of latin dance. \n\n‘My parents say that I have been dancing even before I could walk! I’ve tried it all: ballet\, tap\, modern\, street\, jazz\, contemporary\, and of course ballroom and latin. They all have their merits but my favourite was always Latin: it asks for technique but also gives you the opportunity to explore your own style. I used to get reprimanded by the teacher in my tap and modern classes for stylising all my exercises with the posture of a Latin dancer. Well\, it’s not my fault that my hips don’t lie! Always one to dance to my own tune\, I was never a big fan of following the man around the floor. Plus\, there’s only so many times that you can copy all the Strictly routines\, before your mum and sister ask you to cut it out\, because you’re blocking Giovanni shaking his hips in HD.\nHaving encountered one solo Salsa class in my time\, I wanted the opportunity to glide under the glitter ball all on my own. So for those of us who sadly lack our own Giovanni waiting for us at home\, now you can jive\, cha cha and rhumba sans partner. He’d only slow you down anyway!\nEvery week\, we will learn the essential technique required for the Cha Cha Cha\, Rhumba\, Jive\, Paso Doble\, and the Salsa\, and combine it all in a swish choreographed routine that scores you 10s across the board\, every time.’\n\nCarys is trained to Gold ballroom and Latin standard\, former member of Gloucestershire contemporary dance. Avid heels dancer and intermediate pole dancer!
